Synesthesia, or cross-sensory perception, connects multiple senses, enabling some people to “taste” colors or experience sounds as having a particular flavor. Although synesthesia is a phenomenon only experienced by some, the thinking behind it is fascinating. Since we learn from childhood to combine different senses – such as sound and vision – the synesthetic experience can inspire a renewed curiosity about the very act of sensing.
